WSRA Institute with Donna Scanlon and Julian (Joe) Elliott

Description of the full day presentation:

Are you concerned about meeting the needs of students who are having difficulties learning to read, including children identified as dyslexic? Whether you are working directly with students as an elementary, middle or high school teacher, a reading teacher, reading specialist, or special education teacher, or are a principal or other administrator collaborating with teachers to better serve your students, this institute is for you. Not only will you leave with a better understanding of the research surrounding this topic, you will develop more expertise to address the complexities that need to be considered when working with and advocating for children with reading difficulties.

Donna Scanlon is a Professor of Reading at the University of Albany, State University of New York where her research has focused on the characteristics of children who experience substantial difficulty in learning to read and how to prevent and remediate reading difficulties.

Julian (Joe) Elliott is a British academic and educational psychologist. He has been Principal of Collingwood College, Durham since 2011, and a Professor of Education at Durham University since 2004. His research and teaching interests include dyslexia, achievement motivation, and working memory difficulties.
