Banned Books Week!

Oh my, should we encourage the reading of controversial books?
Yes, because any book can be challenged. Parents and adults challenge books for the content, for something they are unsure of or don’t believe children should know about. Because of this, the Intellectual Freedom committee believes that we, as literacy educators, should encourage our students to read books they are interested in so they can become the thinking, caring humans we want them to be. Banned Books Week, celebrated this year September 22 to 28, highlights the freedom to read essential to a vibrant society.
