Philosophy for Children: Developing Critical Thinking and Socio-Emotional Awareness Through Picture Book Discussions

Location: Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha

Time: 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. 

Philosophy for Children (P4C) is an instructional approach that helps learners of all ages develop reasoning, argument, and critical thinking skills through philosophical dialogue around picture books. In this workshop, participants will learn about the benefits of P4C including increased cognitive flexibility, socio-emotional awareness, and stronger speaking and listening skills. We will learn how to extract philosophical ideas and questions that are inherent in many picture books and explore strategies for facilitating philosophical discussions within the literacy classroom.
