Thursday, November 16, 2017 Concordia University - Appleton Campus 4351 W College Ave, Suite 100 5:30 PM Dinner 6:15-7:30 PM Program Mindfully Implementing Research-Based Practices presented by Deb Zarling We are bombarded with information on the “best” way to teach. As literacy educators and leaders, we make decisions that impact the education, and ultimately the lives, of students. We know we are supposed to use “research based practices,” and make “data driven decisions,” but what does that really mean, and how do we know? How do we make sound decisions, and support and advocate for those decisions with others? Debra Zarling is the K-12 Reading Coordinator for the Oshkosh Area School District. In addition to her role as a district Reading Specialist, she has also been a classroom teacher, Title I teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, and school level Reading Specialist. She holds a Master Educator license as a Reading Specialist. She is Past President of the Wisconsin State Reading Association and currently serves as the ESEA/RtI/Assessment task force co-chair and Reading Specialist Committee Chair.
